Extracting Mods

Sorry if I am missing something, I just did the 3 materials quest and asked about Extracting Mods. He mentions to place the Helmet and have read that it goes on the stand next to the mannequin. The problem that I am having is that after I place it there nothing happens. Is this another wait 24 hours? I have tried talking to him again after placing the helmet and have even placed a spacesuit. Both are unchanged from how I found them (just in case if I modded the 1st slot or anything)

Update: we have added a failsafe that we believe may solve this issue for everyone, under all circumstances you have mentioned, which will be added into the next patch. Fingers crossed this works for you guys, and when the patch does release, please do let us know if this fixes the issue!
Adding this because I am having the same issue on Xbox, with an almost identical mod list. Hope this gets figured out!

To clarify, I was able to complete the 3 materials introductory quest, and received the first suit and helmet. Then I got the same bug OP describes where the helmet never spawned and he won't let me choose one of my own.

Update: I played around with the load order like someone else mentioned, but that did not help. I put it at the top and bottom, didn't change anything. The [Extract Mod] dialogue option is just a loop of him talking about the helmet, and doesn't open the inventory interface.
 
Was it a fresh save or did you move it up the load order mid run?
Mine was odd because the helmet was there initially but not when I went to NG+. I'm wondering if the issue occurs during the initial new game generation.
Either way I think I'll NG+ over the weekend and see if the helmet spawns again

I did it mid run. Supposedly the dynamic universe issue was already patched, so I'm really not sure what the issue could be. I added it the load order after leaving Jemison, as instructed in the mod, but it was right at the beginning of the game. I'm not starting over from level 45 because a mod is broken lol.

Oh yeah, that's why I'm trying another ng+ instead, starting over is far too much Tim's.
You know what, do you have the spaceship skin variety mod? I know I do and so does the OP, I wonder if it's trying to modify the helmet mcclarance spawns and that's cause it to mess up

You know... I do have a mod that gives suits more variety. It may not be the same one, but the intent is the same. I'll disable and see if that works, and if not I'll start a new game just to see if that fixes it too. I have to know, I really want this mod to work.

Me too, transferring mods has got to be the biggest QOL improvement in creations by a huge amount. If I figure anything out over the weekend when I'm messing with it I'll be sure to post it here so you can see it too

Same here. The suit variety wasn't the issue on my end, so I started a new game to see. Of course the materials quest has me going out it Ixyl so I'll have to actually play the game a bit before I can make it there without dying to spacers or the local fauna lol.

I can confirm that starting a brand new game did indeed fix the issue. RIP my old save. Fortunately, I hadn't done much of the story in that one yet so. Not too much lost. Plus I had lost one or two unique items that I can now re-acquire and put on display.

Yeah I just went through ng+ and the helmet was there. All in all, could have been worse

I'm sorry you had to restart your game. Would you mind please sharing your mod list? This is still something we want to look into, it's a little tricky on xbox but we have an investigation open on our bug tracker. The more information the better, perhaps there is a particular shared conflict going on, or some kind of McClarence bug we have yet to reproduce on our end.
