Tip for those massive space battles: use the engines from Avontech Shipyards

In particular, the class A engines (Avonwarp-1 and Avontech mini), and also the class C Avonwarp-2. These have super-fast boost recovery, which lets you stay in boost close to permanently. This means you can engage and disengage at will: fly in, shoot the target up, then get out before they can do the same to you. You'll still need a sturdy ship, but it's entirely feasible to solo a dozen or more Watchtower ships without taking any hull damage. I've destroyed a couple of major hubs on my own this way, taking out something like 30-40 ships each time.

This may be a bit cheesy, but if you don't want (or don't yet have) a big fleet, it's a way to stay alive and make progress rather than just running away.

Other OP gear includes the shield boosters and guns from Matilija. They cost like an order of magnitude more than vanilla gear, but you can kill ships in seconds with them.

Tips are good. :-) You don't need a big fleet btw. I too thought that, and kept on dodging on my own until I could field a large fleet but then I just thought lets just equip the ships I have and put some generic crew at the helm and see what happens. I prepared three A-class fighters, best reactor and whatnot I could get, one B-class ship and me myself flying a B-class captured Watchtower Destroyer II that I had modified. Then I jumped in and though 'just let it rip' and I was super suprised how well that went and this was at a major hub that I had weakened a little bit (not all the way).

So a fair mid-sized fleet can also work well, and my A-class ships went circles around the enemy C-class. Hope this helps someone too. :-)

So how do you weaken an array hub fleet? I have an activity which says to deal with the Sirius array and I get absolutely slaughtered when I grav jump into the system and don't have a clear understanding of how to weaken it? I must have missed something in the dialogue.
