Major WT Fleet Jumps In But I'm Low Level

Trying to understand how these Watchtower fleets roll in. Random? Based on system level? I was heading to Akila by way of Bernard's Star system when I got jumped by a bunch of Watchtower, most of them 36. I'm 17. Just fresh off the assembly line in Watchtower quests. No chance for escape. Vanilla except for Watchtower. Just going to have to tgm myself through the fight(s) I guess.

What's the reason for such a high level bunch of ships whose only goal is to destroy me rather than capture?

What's the reason for such a high level bunch of ships whose only goal is to destroy me rather than capture?

Was this a large incoming fleet (where sirens blare several seconds before they spawn in, and a corner message pops up warning about them?), or is this a smaller number of ships ambushing you? These are two separate random encounters, and are based on an internal tracking system.

We have a gameplay setting for chance encounters that can be toggled to considerably lower the chances of them tracking you down if you prefer.

I don't remember blaring, but it wasn't a small number of ships. Watchtower drone or two, then two groups warped in. One of them had FOUR battleships. I gave up, went god mode and killall, then skipped out. It was too much.
