How to board enemy ships before my fleet destroys them?

I have all EM weapons on my ship. I disable enemy ships and want to board but my fleet continues to destroy them even after

I had to use the ship builder and modify my support ship weapons, I give them em weapons and laser weapons. That way they don’t do much hull damage to ships I’m trying to board.
