How does "salvaging" a ship work?

I boarded a cruiser (big m-fucker), and when I got to the cockpit, I couldn't take it over since it's an M-class ship. I got the option to salvage it, so that's what I picked. Nothing seemed to happen though; the remaining enemies kept fighting, and when I eventually left, I had to destroy it since it went hostile again. How do you salvage watchtower ships, and what do you get from doing so?

So that seems like a bug, since the ship was not cleared of all enemies, you should not have been able to take it over nor should you have been able to salvage it.

However...
Once you do salvage a ship, the next time you visit Gren, he will pay you for it.

Question: Did you update Watchtower to v1.0.2?

This was before the update dropped. I was surprised myself that I could salvage it, given that there were still enemies around.

Also, is it actually possible to clear everyone from a Watchtower cruiser? Or do they keep respawning? I think I must have killed something like 40-50 dudes before I gave up.

Ah... great question.... hopefully someone will reply that knows..... I've yet to board any Watchtower ships (my fleet seems to be quite good at eradicating them)
