How do the skydrop mining robots work?

There doesn't seem to be any way to access an inventory on the robots or the drop pod. They mention samples are being stored on the ship, but I don't see any resources increasing despite letting the game run for about 10 minutes. Are they being sent to the skydrop ship's inventory somehow?

I believe the resources show up in the inventory once you leave the planet. Is this not occuring for you?

(So for example if you spent a lot of time on a planet and then left, you should have accumulated a fair amount. It just won't actually display until you leave if I'm recalling correctly).
