Fleet Ship Batters Stardock, Destroys Self! News at 11!

I see from Kinggath's post about the fleet ships being essential, but typical Bugthesda makes that sometimes unreliable. One of my fleet ships battered itself against Stardock and destroyed itself.

Although no way to correct Bugthesda's own FU, how about fleet ships staying at long distance so they cannot get close enough to Stardock? We don't really need them to dock. We can live with that, right? The pilots can still disembark and we'd be fine with NOT losing fleet ships because the damn pilot can't pilot properly.
 
My ships run into Stardock, my home ship, and each other all the time and it never seems like they take much damage. Can this be a problem? Or is it possible you are using a mod that makes ship damage more likely?
 
Huh, I usually go in with my speed at the middle of the range currently around 75 and I make sure I hit R at the right time but even if I miss nothing gets past my shields. I try to make sure there is a person with the shield skill or a defensive specialist on each ship and I also try to equip someone on each ship with a shield cybermod from the clinic. In addition, the minimum shield I use is the Vanguard one. I see lots of sparks but no real damage.

Additionally, I know that the protected ships being destroyed is an engine bug, and one we have reached out to Bethesda about.
 
While having space stations armed makes sense, I've never seen any hostile forces attack any station in this game yet. I guess it just isn't scripted. As you progress with sprucing up the interior of Stardock, there is armed security added.
 
It would be cool if one could assign part of one’s fleet to patrol the Stardock system. One really doesn’t need all of their ships following along all the time. It would be nice to be able to give other assignments to them.
