Final battle bugged...hundreds of thralls!

In the final battle with Volgaafonaan, he kept summoning more and more thralls, up to about 10. I thought this was normal but I couldn't win so I escaped through the exit door and went back into town to resupply. When I came back, my FPS dropped way down because the cavern was filled with HUNDREDS of thralls, many of them were floating around the ceiling. Volgaafsonaan was stuck in his original position so I slowly killed him, but when his health hit zero he still didn't die. His head would shoot ice at me if I got close to it but the body didn't move. I tried killing him with console commands and he wouldn't die.

The whole battle seems to be completely bugged, but I put in way too much time gearing up for my return fight to reload an earlier save. Is there any console command other than "kill" that will kill him and end the battle? Also, was it a bug that I was able to leave the battle in the first place? It seemed very strange that I could walk out in the middle of it and Helvana would follow me out without commenting on it.

Update for you - we were finally able to reproduce this, here is a fix for now until we are able to get it into the next patch release.

Unfortunately this fix isn't retroactive (so it cannot remove the excess thralls you encountered) - however, this should stop it happening again if you are able to roll back to before you were inundated with so many of them and have this enabled. You should be able to leave the dungeon and re-enter with this fix and not risk spawning an excess number of thralls. Typically, when this phase of the fight occurs, you shouldn't see more than about 20 at a time.

As for the other issue - Volgaafsonaan enters bleedout as explained, however when combat stops he will regenerate health. So if you fought him...
Hi there - I'm sorry you experienced this!

I was unable to reproduce this in a test environment, however since you have such a small load order, could you please provide me your save file? I'll see if I can open it and take a look at what's going on.

Regarding being able to leave mid-fight - that is "allowed", as it's a tough fight, and measures were taken to ensure players can leave the fight and return if necessary without things breaking, so it's disheartening to hear that you've run into problems. Though I will need to double-check about Helvana following you... I agree it does not feel right, and I've mentioned as such to the devs.

Regarding Volgaafsonaan dying - he actually is supposed to go into a bleedout state. Once that happens, the quest should advance to where Sledrig comes running over and talks to you. So it sounds like the quest is simply not advancing correctly if this is happening.

As well as providing your save file, could you please type the following command into the console and letting me know which stage you are on?

I love you for being responsive and helpful like this. Best modding team ever. Yes, the battle seems to be broken on multiple levels because V is stuck in his position and can't move except for his head which tries to blast me if I get in range. I wondered if maybe the massive number of thralls in the space is just crashing the whole script? The thralls also behave strangely, as they don't aggro until I get very close, not to mention the whole "floating around the ceiling" thing. How many thralls is he normally supposed to summon at once? It seemed a bit crazy even before I retreated, because he just kept summoning them and I was facing a small army. It almost seems like the summoning actually continued after I left and just kept filling up the space!

The console says I'm on Stage 100

The save file was too large to attach here but here is the Google Drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ARDKoHLPWy_4mWq5YXbghOpF5nM8KgMz/view?usp=drive_link

Also here is a twitch clip of the army of thralls in case you're curious to see how it behaved... https://www.twitch.tv/tirdsworth/clip/LachrymoseExcitedPonyRaccAttack-rtyCVEu9r4M7Re5k

Thank you so much. I absolutely loved this mod and I really want to see the ending!

Managed to load into your save and experienced the same issues as you. Some failsafes have been added to prevent this in a future patch. I am still tinkering with it, and will let you know if I make any progress.

Can I just check with you - what version of Skyrim are you using?

It's Special Edition, I can't seem to find where it says the specific update version but it's the latest available on Steam.

Is there anything you could suggest for moving past this battle? Or if I have to reload an earlier save, any way to be sure it doesn't happen again? Even before I escaped the area, it seemed like something might be wrong because V was summoning a LOT of thralls, and at one point I actually managed to kill him but his health just fully replenished. Is that supposed to happen? (I was far away when my follower finished him so I don't know if I missed some revival sequence?)

So if you fought him but then left the dungeon or hung way back and stopped fighting, his health will regenerate. He needs to be put into a bleedout state and then the quest should advance.

If you have any more problems after your roll back, please let us know. Hopefully this time, you won't encounter further issues.
