What is the point of assigning a pilot to a fleet ship?

One can add ships to one's fleet by assigning crew to the ships. Once one has assigned at least one crew member, then there is an option to assign a pilot. What is the point of a pilot? How are pilots different than crew?

This is just cosmetic - there is no functional difference other than who sits in the seat. The only other difference really will be when using a skydrop from their ship, whoever is assigned as pilot will be the one who has voice lines before and after launching a skydrop.
