Up to speed

upgrading your ships could be done for a price or quest at the space station perhaps. Currently the starting put the player at severe risk with all the surveillance drones. Currently I decided to remove this mod until a viable way to start the mod. I see no other alternative, so I created a new playthrough and wait with anticipation.

Hmm, that sux that you're struggling :(

The first thing that comes to mind is the difficulty setting; have you tried lowering them (there are 2 for ship combat)?

I've started this mod with 2 brand new saves and didn't experience any issues. I hope this helps:

Both times I kicked off the mod by jumping to a level 20 system, since there's nothing you can do to prevent the outcome, I just submit. Even with the base Frontier ship, since there's no fighting, nothing hard here.

However, once you meet w/Torin and jump to Eridani III. It's a level 20 system and you DO have to fight off the drones after you scan the planet. Even with the Frontier, if you remove all weapons and then add three of the Disruptor 3300 weapons; you can run those at full power(9), full shields (3) and 1 pip on your engines (2 if you assigned Vasco to your ship) and of course have at least 10 to 15 Ship Parts available. <- while fighting keep an eye on your hull health and hit the "O" key as soon as it shows.

Oh and since you mentioned starting a new save; Did you know that the Kidstuff trait eventually gives you a free ship? It's not very hard to advance your parents "story" to unlock the ship. It has a 20 power reactor and it much easier to upgrade than the Frontier. Let me know if you'd like more info.

I mean if we're throwing out options for a fresh save; I suggest completing the Freestar (Ron Hope) mission. The Star Eagle is pretty much the best class "A" ship you can get. The only downside from the Razorleaf is Spacers won't run away from you ;)

I usually play main story through meeting Vladimir so I can sell him survey data. While I'm surveying the planets, I find a better class a to jack (ecliptic, etc.) Then pimp that one out with just particle cannons as a single weapon and better shields. I keep doing surveys and ship jacks. Now I'm at a fresh playthrough lv24 and I've got a decent class a plus 6 additional class a ready to go for my fleet actually lol. Hope that helps. (Side note funny, I was quite pleased with myself for getting to this point, before bed last night decided to kick off watchtower. Encountered wt ships, torin saved me, I head to stardock, and... the freaking oracle - yeah from dlc - is now in orbit too. The recording from sirak keeps playing over and over everywhere in stardock, including during dialog... gonna grab fleet mode module, then return and get that oracle the heck out of there by doing dlc up until I'm in dazra orbit... So psa, remember to get the oracle to show somewhere else first if you have the game dlc) Have fun everyone. 👍

"The recording from sirak keeps playing over and over everywhere in stardock, including during dialog"

Oh my - that would drive me bonkers.... once per play thru is plenty... 🫤

@mikepointoh - that's an awesome leveling strategy. I pretty much take the opposite route; I grab all the "destroy ship" missions I can get with the occasional "delivery" mission so I can level up my Piloting skill. Usually try and grab a CF Phantom as soon as I can and use that until I've maxed Piloting out.

Yeah it was maddening and distracting, as soon as I did the first meet and greet, then the first two outpost missions until torin asks if you want him to join you, I said yes then boarded and cleared the oracle to advance dlc until oracle was parked over dazra. Dazra communicates up to you, expects you to come land on the surface to talk, I just undocked from oracle and headed back to stardock. (Odd side note from when it was still going on, the one place that I didn't hear sirak recording was in gren workshop, that must be more separate than the rest of the station.)
