Only for reference: Hybrid vamp/werewolf mods like CoTD & playing instruments

This post is only for reference in the event someone else may come across it and can continue the conversation. I am using BCE and also a mod called Curse of the Dragonborn, which allows the player to be both a werewolf AND a vampire or vamp lord without problems no matter how you contract them. However, using any of the three instruments from BCE will dump the player from a Vampire Lord back to just being a regular ol' vampire even if the player were never just a regular vamp before. That has caused Harkon from Dawnguard to be a little miffed, and could end the whole scenario playing Dawnguard.

Thankfully Curse includes MCM options to switch back to Vampire Lord (or any other creature OR cure everything), but it is a strange interaction. Something about playing the instruments = needing to be race 'human' or something? Maybe because we can walk around playing?

Obviously it isn't a BCE problem, so don't need assistance; just wondering what might cause it.

Hi there!

In order for playable instruments to work, we utilise something in BCE called 'race-swapping'. So when playing an instrument, your character will briefly change to a 'BCE' version of that race. (For example if you play as an Orc, and then play an instrument, whilst the instrument is equipped you might see your race listed as something like KGCbard_Orc). When you stop playing your instrument, you revert back to the vanilla version of this race. We also have measures in place for players who are vampires and werewolves to ensure that the correct race is re-applied even for players who have transformed in their playthroughs. However, if you use a mod that changes your race from something vanilla (such as a mod that changes your race entirely at character creation, or touches it in some other kind of way like the mod you are describing), it's likely this is causing a conflict and some kind of patch is required to ensure race compatibility (without which, there may be some quirks with instrument playing). Hope that helps.
