Are all array fights supposed to be this intense?

This was the array at Groombridge; I think I fought about 30-40 ships in total, including multiple battleships. Things were made harder by the array being hard to hit (which should be fixed next patch), so new ships kept jumping in.

Am I correct that these arrays aren't even major objectives? Like, there's something else called array hubs which feature in advancing the storyline? Those fights must be something else....

Major arrays hubs are named (Alpha, Kappa, Omega, etc). Minor arrays are simply labelled 'watchtower array', and there is one in every single system that does not contain a major array hub.

Major array hubs are defended by large fleets of ships, and minor arrays are also defended but in smaller numbers. Taking out the array will stop more periodically spawning in. The more minor arrays within a system tier are destroyed, the smaller the defending fleet within that tier's major hub array system will be.
If it's the hard to hit one, you probably tried to take on a major array.
From what I understand they're supposed to be intense if you don't do the minor ones first.
These are arrays with Greek letter names, I think this one was Watchtower Array Hub Kappa. The terminology is inconsistent, which doesn't help; the game calls them array hubs, there doesn't seem to be any in-game "minor array".

Thanks for the information! I found these hubs by tracking the activity "destroy major hubs". After killing one hub, it updates to point to the next hub without mentioning any minor arrays, so I wasn't aware you could destroy the latter to weaken the former. Just some followup questions:

- How do you find the minor arrays? It it just a case of finding a watchtower listening post POI, then retrieving the array info from it?
- After you kill the array (either minor or major hub), will Watchtower fleets continue to spawn in that system?
